La Ronge, Stanley Mission hosting Canada Day events

Jun 30, 2022 | 5:00 PM

The Town of La Ronge and other organizations will be hosting Canada events for residents of the tri-communities.

Celebrations for the national holiday will begin at the Kikinahk Friendship Centre with a free pancake breakfast and beverages from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Those wanting to participate in the Canada Day Parade are asked to meet at the Lac La Ronge Indian Band Office at 10 a.m. and the parade itself will proceed along La Ronge Avenue at 10:30 a.m.

Between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., residents are invited to Patterson Park for a free barbecue, bouncy castles, face painting, music, disc golf and other activities. The Jonas Roberts Memorial Community Centre will have canoes and paddle boards available at the beach, and staff will be hosting beach volleyball.

“There will be a little bit of a gap in festivities and we will start up again at 10 p.m. to 10:15 p.m., depending on when it gets dark, and we will have a fireworks show for everyone to enjoy,” said La Ronge community services manager Connor Tessier.

The 10th annual Napatāk Ramble will also begin July 1 with gates opening at 3 p.m. The two-day event will feature about 30 musical acts featuring local, as well as out-of-town musicians.

An art market will also be set up at the event and various workshops are open to the public. Several food concession booths will be operating there as well.

At 2 p.m., there will be a co-ed volleyball tournament at the high school and, at 3 p.m., a horseshoes tournament (doubles) will be held outside the arena.

A Canada Day Country and Gospel Show are planned outside the church from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. There will be an open mic, and coffee and tea will be provided.
