New La Ronge pathways cost $167,000
New pathways in La Ronge, which were constructed in recent weeks, are part of a $167,000 paving project.
That’s according to Chief Administrative Officer Lyle Hannan, who explained approximately $152,000 of that total is covered by a provincial Municipal Economic Enhancement Program grant.
New or improved walkways are along Backlund Street, Boardman Street and Hildebrand Drive. Hannan noted the project improves pedestrian traffic to the elementary and high schools, daycare, hospital, post office, town office, Mel Hegland Uniplex and Northlands College.
“It’s a commonly used and transversed area,” he said. “It just makes it’s a safer area that keeps people off the road as much as possible and makes it more accessible for people who are in wheeled conveyances and stuff like that. It’s just something that’s there to improve accessibility and improve safety in our community in a highly used area.”
