A&W to open in La Ronge by end of 2022

A fast-food chain that once had a presence in La Ronge exceeding two decades is set to return.

“We’re building a new A&W for the northern communities of Saskatchewan,” said local businessman Dallas Everest, who will own the location with his wife, Crystal. “Everyone is looking forward to it. Once the old one closed, we missed it as a community and it was sad to see it go, but it did and now hopefully we will get it back.”

Construction on the new restaurant began about one week ago at the former KFC location, which the Everests also owned before selling it two years ago. The current building on the lot will be demolished to make space for the A&W franchise.

The new location will include seating for fifty people, as well as take-out and a drive-thru. Aside from the nostalgia residents have for A&W, Everest noted he and his wife decided to open one because they believe the tri-communities are lacking a good place for breakfast.

“We’re hoping to be done in the middle of November,” he said. “Opening in the middle of November is the tentative date as long as all of the supplies and everything are coming accordingly.”

Before then, the Everests will also need to complete on-site training at a different location.

The former A&W was located in what’s now Giant Tiger. Its final day of operations was Aug. 15, 2013.
