Local athlete competes at National Baseball Championships in PEI
A promising young athlete from the tri-communities earned a spot and competed with two provincial baseball teams this summer.
Criseyde Borthwick, 13, is now getting ready for the upcoming school year after competing this month in the Western Canadian Championships in Winnipeg, as well as the National Baseball Championships in Summerside, P.E.I.
At Westerns, she played on a girls 14U team earning second place, and for nationals she was part of a 15U team where she placed fourth. Westerns occurred about two weeks ago and nationals took place this past weekend.
“We were doing well at the start. We mercied a couple of teams at the start and then by the end of the tournament, we started to go down,” Borthwick said. “We started to get more competition than the first teams we played. We started losing after a couple of games. We got fourth. If you think about it, fourth in the country, that is pretty crazy.”
