SaskTel Expands 5G Service to Cut Knife

Oct 24, 2022 | 3:00 PM

SaskTel announced this morning it has expanded 5G network service to the Cut Knife area.

The 5G service provides a wireless data connection for smart devices with speeds of up to 1.2 gigabits per second (Gbps).

SaskTel also announced the service has been extended to Crooked River, Quill Lake, and the rural area northeast of Hanley.

In the media release announcing the new service, SaskTel says up until now, it has focused on rolling out the improved services to Saskatchewan’s large urban centres. Now they intend to improve service along highway corridors throughout Saskatchewan.

Once the network is fully deployed, there will be other advantages beyond a major jump in connection speed. One of the advantages is reduced latency, the amount of time it takes a device to receive a response for data. Reduced latency will make real-time applications more reliable.

In order to connect to the 5G network, an approved 5G device is required along with a 5G compatible data plan.

SaskTel has committed to spending $1.5 billion over the next five years to improve its network.
