LA RONGE, SK – Ryley Morgan was the overtime hero on Friday night, helping the La Ronge Ice Wolves topple the Battlefords Stars 2-1 at the Meg Hegland Uniplex.

It was a battle of the netminders in the Remembrance Day contest, where both goalies combined for 70 total saves on 73 shots.

Ice Wolves’ Dawson Smith collected the win where he made 37 saves to help La Ronge improve to 13-7-1-0 on the year.

Josh Kotai was between the pipes for the Stars, stopping 33 of 35 shots as Battlefords falls to 17-0-2-1 this season.

COMPLETE BOX SCORE

Neither team could score in the first but the ice was finally broken in the second. Thomas Wright gave the puck to Walker Jerome who connected with Ethan Strik to put the Wolves up by one going into the third.

The Battlefords managed to get on the board with a Nikolas Smolinski marker. Ryan Taylor and Keiton Klein each collected assists on the play.

La Ronge needed just 30 seconds to take the win, where Trenton Curtis found Ryley Morgan who scored the game-winner to ice it for the Wolves.

The Ice Wolves are back at home on Saturday afternoon to wrap-up the back-to-back weekend where the Yorkton Terriers will visit the Meg Hegland Uniplex. Puck drop is slated for 2:30.
