LLRIB releases letter about no tolerance for crime and drugs in on-reserve housing

The Lac La Ronge Indian Band (LLRIB) is reminding those who live on reserve of its no compromise, non-negotiable stance against drugs or any other illegal activities.

“The membership is reminded that all people residing in homes (including band-administered and privately-owned homes) on LLRIB land in communities that fall under the LLRIB Housing Policy of February 2020 are governed by the policy,” a letter released Friday states.

“Occupants and borrowers, if found ‘trafficking narcotics or carrying out other illegal business activities in or from a unit,’ invite immediate eviction without prior notice.”

The band noted members can also be removed from their home if they make a false declaration on a housing application or under homeownership qualification provision, or are convicted of a serious criminal code offence.

“Substance abuse and alcoholism threaten not just an individual’s health, safety and peace of mind, but our way of life, traditional values and drain precious resources,” the letter adds.

“We deserve an environment free of crime and negative influence of drugs. We don’t, and won’t, tolerate drugs and crime in our community.”

The letter also notes LLRIB council is committed to creating and maintaining a crime-free community.

larongeNOW reached out to the LLRIB for more information, but they declined to comment.
