Ice Wolves win 6-1 in Melville

Feb 8, 2023 | 4:15 PM

The La Ronge Ice Wolves won 6-1 Tuesday in Melville against the Millionaires.

“Fourth game in five nights, and I thought it was our best effort. That’s good mental toughness by our group,” Ice Wolves assistant coach Kyle Schneider said.

“Defensively, we were a lot more sound, we stuck to our structure. Offensively, we got rewarded here tonight.”

Mason Bueckert scored twice for the Ice Wolves, while Tommy Wright, Liam McInnis, Dylan Handel and Lleyton Shearon rounded out the offensive for La Ronge. Dawson Smith was in the net for La Ronge, turning away 34 shots.

Felix Beauchemin was the only Melville player to find the back of the net, while Clement Labillois stopped 24 shots in the loss.

“It was just a full team effort, every line contributed and we had all four lines going,” said La Ronge forward Jacob Visentini.

“Special teams helped chip in – shorthanded and power play. It was just a big team effort tonight. [It’s] good to be back in the win column.”

The Ice Wolves record this season sits at 28-16-5, which still has them sitting in second place in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League standings.

La Ronge will now take some much-needed time off before travelling to Kindersley to face the Klippers Feb. 17 at the West Central Events Centre.
