La Ronge allocates $600,000 gas tax grant to road repairs, gravel crushing

La Ronge council has authorized administration to apply $600,000 in funds from the Canada Community Building Fund Gas Tax Grant to road repairs and gravel crushing as identified in the town’s 2023 capital budget.

The decision to do so was made during a regular council meeting on Tuesday. The intent of the project is to conduct a number of minor patching works in 2023, and also crush gravel in preparation for comprehensive paving program projected for 2026.

The Government of Saskatchewan provides funds in the form of the Canada Community Building Fund to the municipality every year to be used for infrastructure. These funds are recorded as deferred revenue (in reserve) until a project is identified for the use of funds.

Such allocation requires a specific motion of council, which passed on Tuesday.
