LLRIB releases official general election results

Official results have been released for last month’s election for the Lac La Ronge Indian Band.

It shows Tammy Cook-Searson has been re-elected as Chief with 1,502 votes. John P. Roberts was the runner-up with 1,102 votes and Bruce Fredrick McKenzie received 836 votes.

There were 3,440 ballots cast for Chief of which 995 were done so electronically. The 2023 band election marked the first time members could vote online during a general election.

Cook-Searson had the most votes for Chief for in-person ballots in La Ronge and Morin Lake. She also received the most votes online, as well as at off-reserve polling stations.

Roberts was the top candidate with in-person votes in Grandmother’s Bay, Stanley Mission and Sucker River.

In La Ronge and Kitsaki, Ann Ratt and Sam Roberts were both re-elected with Cheryline (Charlene) Venne and Dean Roberts joining them.

In Stanley Mission, Jimmy Charles and Linda Charles were both re-elected with Robin McKenzie coming aboard.

Gerald McKenzie was re-elected in Grandmother’s Bay and both John Halkett and Keith Mirasty were re-elected in Little Red River.

Devin Bernatchez of Sucker River and Norman Ross of Morin Lake were both acclaimed.
