The La Ronge Ice Wolves were busy Thursday, selecting eight players in the 2023 SJHL Draft.

The team had their first selection in the second round, 17th overall, and used it to pick forward Logan Mehl from Regina. Mehl had 51 points in 35 regular season games with the Regina Vics U18 AA team last season.

“Logan does everything well,” said Ice Wolves Head Scout Rob Fiola in a release. “He skates well, he can finish, he plays a physical game, his 200-foot game overall is very, very good.”

Moving on to the third round where the Ice Wolves selected forwards Dylan Danyluk and Ty Dauvin. Danyluk netted 32 points in 33 games with the Saskatoon Riverkings U18 AA team last season while Dauvin had 19 points in 41 games with the Warman Wildcats U18 AAA program.

Meanwhile, in the fourth round, the Ice Wolves drafted defenceman Ryder McKinnon of Saskatoon.

The team had two picks in the fifth round of the draft, selecting Thomas Harding from the Saskatoon Sabrecats and Kale Pratte from the Prairie Hockey Academy U16 team.

The Ice Wolves also grabbed a couple players in the 2008-born draft on Thursday, selecting defenceman Cameron Jacobson and forward Rory Dewar, both from the Humboldt Broncos U15 AA squad.

“I think we were ecstatic on how the day went,” said Fiola. “Like all head scouts and organizations, all of them are happy – but we truly are happy with how we did.”

The Ice Wolves also completed a trade on Thursday, sending Jacob Visentini and a third round pick to the Weyburn Red Wings in exchange for a player development fee and a second round selection.
