Pride Flag raised in Air Ronge

Jun 2, 2023 | 2:06 PM

The Pride Flag was raised Thursday outside the Air Ronge village office.

It marked the first time it was raised at that location as in previous years it either flew outside the La Ronge municipal office or in Patterson Park. Representatives from both Air Ronge and La Ronge Council were in attendance, along with members of the La Ronge Regional Fire Department and La Ronge RCMP.

“I’d like to thank the Lac La Ronge Pride Committee for inviting Air Ronge to be part of the flag-raising ceremony,” Air Ronge Mayor Julie Baschuk said. “As a community and as a council, we remain committed to supporting and acknowledging Pride Week and Pride Month and all of the activities that come with that.”

Pride committee president Dean Sanderson had the honour of raising the Pride Flag this year. As it reached the top of the pole, those in attendance began to clap and cheer.

This marks the fifth year Pride Month is being celebrated in the tri-communities. A full slate of events are planned including Trivia Night at Kostas on June 22, a Drag and Comedy Show on June 23 (location to be announced), and a parade and festival on June 24 along La Ronge Avenue and Patterson Park.

The festival will occur after the parade. There will be singers, performers, and artists from across Saskatchewan performing, as well as a face-painting workshop, a free barbecue, snacks, and drinks.

Pride Month is an entire month dedicated to the uplifting of LGBTQ voices, the celebration of LGBTQ culture, and the support of LGBTQ rights.
