La Ronge council ends COVID-19 vaccine policy
The Town of La Ronge has formally removed its COVID-19 mandatory vaccine policy.
The unanimous decision to do so was made at a regular council meeting on Tuesday. The policy came into force in October 2021 and it required staff to have two COVID-19 vaccination shots by Nov. 30, 2021.
Those who didn’t want to submit to regular testing had to qualify for an exemption on either religious or medical grounds, as well as provide documentation proving such an exemption was needed. The cost of such testing also fell upon the employee.
The policy was also extended to volunteers assisting municipal employees, along with appointed committee and board members. Failure to comply with the policy, including providing false or misleading information, could have resulted in discipline up to termination.
