ParticiPARK consultation planned for La Ronge

Jun 30, 2023 | 5:00 PM

The public is invited to Patterson Park for a free event hosted by ParticipACTION in partnership with Bienenstock Natural Playgrounds and the Town of La Ronge.

That’s according to a media release issued earlier this week, which stated with support from the Public Health Agency of Canada, ParticipACTION and Bienenstock Natural Playgrounds are working with equity-deserving communities across the country to design parks and to cater to their unique needs.

Consultations are being held where community members can voice their ideas about what their ideal ParticiPARK includes. The result will be a sensory-rich outdoor physical activity and recreation space, where stations will prompt movement and play, including adaptations so everyone can participate.

“Designed to be low-barrier and accessible, the parks will include authentic, beautifully crafted interactive natural features to provide people of all ages and abilities an opportunity to transform the way they move,” the release states.

ParticipACTION, a national non-profit organization inspiring and supporting Canadians to make physical activity a vital part of their everyday life, developed the innovative ParticiPARKS project to reconnect people of all ages with nature, play, and movement, particularly those facing health inequalities. Partnering on the park designs with Bienenstock Natural Playgrounds, a leader in the development of natural playgrounds, ParticiPARKS will create a multi-sensory environment to support physical activity in nature and enhance communities with beautifully incorporated interactive natural features.

The public consultation will be held July 8 between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. and it will include food trucks and activities including a fun obstacle course, physical activity stations for grip strength and balance, a local artist and drawing station, and a local community group activity will be provided for guests to enjoy free of charge.

La Ronge was selected by ParticipACTION in January as one of four Canadian communities to receive a design for a ParticiPARK. A committee has already been established with local connections and expertise to guide the design of the ParticiPARK.

Those on the committee will review project and outreach materials, meet three to four times for one to two hours starting in late January or early February and ending in July 2023, as well as prepare and participate in the engagement event activity in La Ronge in July.
