Northlands College of U of R announce new partnership

Jul 4, 2023 | 3:30 PM

More opportunities could be coming for students in northern Saskatchewan thanks to a new partnership between Northlands College and the University of Regina (U of R).

The two post-secondary schools recently entered signed a Memorandum of Understanding to help collaborate and deliver new programs for students.

The partnership means U of R programs could be delivered to students at Northlands College either in person or through hybrid learning.

Karsten Henriksen, the President & CEO of Northlands College was extremely grateful for the partnership.

“The exchange of knowledge and expertise will not only enrich their educational experiences but also pave the way for new career prospects,” he said. “By expanding access to higher education, we are empowering northern Saskatchewan residents to unlock their potential and contribute to the growth and development of our region.”

Meanwhile, Dr. Jeff Keshen, President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Regina said the agreement would help students take university-level courses without leaving their home community.

“We are happy to partner with Northlands College in such a meaningful way to expand educational opportunities in the north and thereby enhance career prospects for Saskatchewan students.”

This is the second partnership the University of Regina has signed with a college in northern Saskatchewan in the past few weeks.

On June 23, the University and North West College signed a Memorandum of Understanding to collaborate on the joint delivery of a community-based Bachelor of Social Work degree program.

That will benefit students taking the program at the college’s campuses in Meadow Lake and North Battleford.
