Mitch McPhail won the La Ronge Men’s Open golf tournament at Eagle Point over the weekend.

McPhail finished the tournament held Aug. 12 and 13 with a two-day score of 140, which was four under par. He was followed by Parker Layton with a score of 144 and Dade Bernatchez with a score of 155.

In addition to the championship flight, there were five other flights, including one for seniors. The winners of the senior’s flight was Ron Simon with a two-day score of 158, followed by Jack Senft with a score of 172 and Eric Bell with a score of 177.

“The course was in excellence shape. The greenskeepers did a great job at getting it ready for us,” said Rob Carr, an organizer of the event.

“With the weather conditions, I think they were out at 4 a.m. on Saturday because of all the rain we had on Friday. A big shout out to those guys… and all the Eagle Point staff.”

In total, there were 55 golfers, an increase of five compared to 2022. There was more than $14,000 rewarded in cash and prizes with each flight paying $500 for first, $300 for second and $200 for third.

There were also two holes marked for closest to the pin that paid out $750 each on both days. There was also a chance to claim a $15,000 hole-in-one prize on holes four and six, but it went unclaimed.

“Saturday night we had a supper and a raffle,” Carr added.

“We had prizes. We probably had $5,000 or $6,000 worth of prizes and those are all bought from local businesses and those are all raffled.”
