Moroz pots first WHL goal as Raiders lose to Medicine Hat

The Prince Albert Raiders dropped the second game of the three-in-three road trip on Saturday night, falling the to the Medicine Hat Tigers 6-2 at Co-op Place.

The loss comes a day after narrowly escaping Swift Current with a 4-3 shootout win over the Broncos.

The night was a special game for the Tigers as the contest was also their Teddy Bear Toss game. Fans in the arena didn’t have to wait long before they sent the fluff flying as Cayden Lindstrom scored the games first goal just 1:14 in. That would be his first of two markers on the night.

Also scoring a pair of goals for the Tigers was Gavin McKenna while Hayden Harsanyi and Kadon McCann netted the other two goals. Oasiz Wiesblatt led Medicine Hat in the assist department with three, Hunter St. Martin and Tomas Mrsic both had two, and Dru Krebs, Andrew Basha, and Rhett Parsons each had one.

For the Raiders, Luke Moroz potted his first career WHL goal while Justice Christensen also tickled twine. Captain Eric Johnston had the lone assist in the game.

In goal for Medicine Hat was Zach Zahara who made 25 saves to help the Tigers improve to 17-8-2-0 on the year.

Chase Coward and Max Hildebrand combined for 26 saves on the night as the Raiders fall to 14-13-0-2 on the campaign.

The Raiders found themselves trailing the Tigers by three following the opening frame. Lindstrom scored the Teddy Bear Toss goal, Harsanyi lit the lamp a short time later, and McKenna potted one on the powerplay.

At the start of the second, Medicine Hat would score again courtesy of Lindstrom making it 4-0. The marker would end Coward’s night as Hildebrand was swapped in for the remainder of the game.

However, the Raiders would finally break the goose egg off an offensive zone draw. A scrum for the puck resulted in it getting passed out to Christensen at the point who slapped home his fifth of the campaign.

The Tigers would restore the four goal lead a short time later after a controversial goal. McKenna sniped home his second of the game off a one-time, however a Medicine Hat player looked to make contact with Hildebrand. After a short review, the goal stood to extend the lead once again.

Later in the period, P.A. got another thanks to a Raider rookie. Johnston flipped a pass high in the air that found Moroz as he crossed over the blue line. He got just above the circles before backchecking Tigers player knocked him off balance and as he was falling, he managed to get a shot off that beat Zahara high to make it 5-2.

McCann added another for the Tigers before the period ended, making it a four-goal deficit for P.A.

The lamps would stay dark for the remainder of the contest as the Tigers would hang on for the 6-2 win.

The Raiders wrap up their three-in-three weekend road trip Sunday afternoon against the Hitmen in Calgary. Nolan Kowal will have the call on 900 CKBI with puck drop slated for 5:00 p.m.
