Five initiatives in the tri-communities have received funding from the Community Initiatives Fund (CIF).

That’s according to a media release issued this week, which stated that 150 grants were approved for funding across Saskatchewan totalling almost $2.5 million.

The funds are estimated to benefit 90,000 participants and contribute to the well-being of 58 communities.

There’s a total of $102,200 coming to the tri-communities with $26,000 going to Churchill Community High School for its fueling learning program, $25,200 to the Tri-Community Homeless Shelter for its Something to Say: Sharing Houseless and Housing Insecure Populations’ Lived Experience program, as well as $25,000 to Gordon Denny Community School for its nutrition program.

Other local recipients are $22,000 to NorthSask Special Needs and $4,000 to Children North, both for staff development training.

“By connecting individuals, families and communities with vital programming across the province, the Community Initiatives Fund enhances the quality of life for people in Saskatchewan,” said Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Laura Ross.

“Our government is proud to support the Community Initiatives Fund. These grants strengthen important community programs, and we look forward to continuing this important relationship.”

The release notes with the support of CIF’s Community Grant Program, Saskatchewan communities benefit by having access to local projects that encourage community well-being, inclusion, leadership and vitality. These projects provide opportunities for children and youth to gain the knowledge, skills and support to develop positive mental health, self-esteem and healthy lifestyle behaviours, and ensure families have access to support and resources to create healthy and caring environments.

CIF is a Special Purpose Fund created through The Lotteries and Gaming Saskatchewan Corporation Act and managed by a government-appointed Board of community-volunteers.
