Extreme Cold Warnings hitting P.A., Battlefords and Meadow Lake

Mar 5, 2024 | 8:04 AM

Extreme cold has followed a major winter storm in Saskatchewan.

Warnings from Environment Canada were in effect Tuesday morning for Saskatoon and west-central Saskatchewan, including the areas around the Battlefords, Kindersley, Lloydminster, Meadow Lake, Outlook, and Prince Albert.

Temperatures as low as -35 C are expected, Environment Canada warned, but conditions are expected to improve as the day progresses.

“A ridge of high pressure is settling in over southern Saskatchewan, giving way to clear skies and cold temperatures,” the weather service explained in a statement.

“Temperatures are expected to moderate Tuesday morning.”

The cold warnings come after a major storm dropped more than a foot of snow on much of the province during the weekend.

While road and highway conditions were tricky on Monday in many areas, producers welcomed the extra snow, which could help stave off drought-like conditions in fields and pastures in the spring.

The latest on Environment Canada’s alerts can be found on the weather service’s website.
