P.A. Ski League’s first-ever competition a great success

Little Red River Park was kept busy on Saturday for the Prince Albert Ski League’s first ever competition.

In conjunction with the Saskatoon Freestyle ski club, the Prairie Peaks Fun Competition began Saturday in P.A. with slopestyle and wrapped up Sunday evening at Saskatoon’s Optimist Snowpark with the mogul event.

“This event has truly set the bar sky-high for all future competitions in the region,” said P.A. Ski League president Amanda Hounjet in a release.

Across the weekend, the competition saw 33 athletes showcase their skills in eight different age groups ranging from U8 to U14 in both boys and girls.

Last year, the province hosted just one competition, but the Ski League believes this past weekend marked a milestone with the establishment of the new circuit.

“This growth speaks volumes about the passion and talent within our community, and we couldn’t be prouder of the progress we’ve made together,” the release continued.

“We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the entire ski community, as well as our local hills, for their unwavering support and dedication in making this event a resounding success. It is through your enthusiasm and commitment that we are able to nurture and elevate the grassroots programming of Freestyle Saskatchewan.”

Overall, the Ski League called the weekend a “phenomenal success” and hopes to continue to see the sport and interest grow in the region and throughout the province.
