Pet Care Info Night hosted by veterinarian on Friday

Mar 21, 2024 | 2:23 PM

Dr. Jordan Woodsworth will be in the tri-communities on Friday delivering a presentation on pet care.

The event will be held at the Jonas Roberts Memorial Community Centre between 6:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. Woodsworth, from the Western College of Veterinarian Medicine, will speak about common medical conditions and symptoms in pets.

“We’re going to talk about vaccinations, why we vaccinate and what we vaccinate for and what the recommended series is, so how frequently and at what ages and things like that,” she said.

“We are also going to talk about parasites and deworming and we are going to talk about the other things that folks might commonly see, so injuries, wounds, dehydration, malnutrition, any of the things that are related to those conditions. Common things like skin, ear problems, vomiting, diarrhea, that kind of stuff.”

Woodsworth explained the pet information presentation would be a valuable event for residents as there is no regular veterinarian care available in the community. She noted it would be her first time conducting a presentation in the area for adults, but added she has done similar education sessions in the past with children and students.

The information session will include a question and answer session and questions can be emailed in advance to wcvm.neco@usask.ca or by calling 1-306-230-0226.

“We’re going to talk about all of that and hopefully provide people with a little bit of information, so they can feel more equipped to manage those things when they come along,” Woodsworth said.

Residents should also be aware of the upcoming annual spring veterinarian clinic coming up between May 9 to 12. Registration will begin shortly and is on a first-come, first serve basis.

“People will hopefully be able to register by the end of this month,” Woodsworth said.

“We might have a form out, but if not, early April, and as always it is first come, first serve. The sooner people can get their registration forms in the better.”
