The La Ronge’s Ice Wolves three-day spring camp in Aberdeen, near Saskatoon, is being called a success.

That’s according to head coach Kevin Kaminski, who explained the camp had 10 teams comprised of 180 players.

The camp began on March 29 and ended March 31.

“It was an awesome weekend, a great performance by the players that gave some great insight for the draft coming up,” he told larongeNOW via text message.

Kaminki noted one player from the camp was listed, while several have been invited to attend the team’s main camp to be held at either the end of August or early September.

“Our education, billet and opportunity talk with all the kids and parents went fantastic and we had a ton of compliments on how well run the camp went,” he added.

Kaminki also wanted to thank the team’s scouts for doing a good job over the weekend, as well as directors Brent Nicol and Randy Johns for their assistance. He mentioned the spring camp will put them in a good position when it comes to the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League draft coming up in June.

The Ice Wolves finished the 2023-2024 regular season in 11th place with 40 loses and 16 wins for 37 points. They did not advance to the playoffs alongside the Nipawin Hawks, Yorkton Terriers and the Notre Dame Hounds.

Six players aged out of the league at the end of the season and Kaminki said he is looking for new talent headed into the 2024-2025 season. He noted all remaining players would need to prove themselves in order to make it on the rosters again.
