Man sentenced to 4 years in prison for role in violent robbery
One of four people involved in a violent robbery, that left the victim with a gunshot wound to the back, has received a four year prison sentence.
Jaron Halkett, 24, appeared at La Ronge Provincial Court on Thursday and a guilty plea was entered to a sole charge of robbery with violence. The sentence represented a joint submission by the Crown and Defence and the victim’s identity is protected by a publication ban.
The incident occurred March 17 in Bells Point. Court heard Halkett, along with three others, plotted to rob the victim after he was invited to a residence on the reserve. During the ordeal, the victim was shot in the head and the back.
A manhunt ensued and Halkett was arrested the following day. He told the court he was sorry for his role in the attack and that he didn’t expect things to go the way it did.
