Mason Fine, Brayden Lenius among Riders’ cuts for 2024 season

The Saskatchewan Roughriders announced a number of roster moves on the CFL deadline for cuts — including the release of a few veterans.

Quarterback Mason Fine was one of the team’s cuts. The pivot was entering his fourth CFL season, all with the Riders. He signed a two-year extension in the offseason.

Fine has dressed for 32 games in his CFL career, mostly as a backup. He has thrown for 1,797 yards. six touchdowns and eight interceptions.

The team also released quarterback Antonio Pipkin, who was brought in last season to handle short-yardage situations. That leaves Shea Patterson and Jack Coan as the team’s quarterbacks behind starter Trevor Harris.

Slotback Brayden Lenius was also a cut after he only appeared in one game last season, dealing with two separate injuries. Lenius had missed all of training camp from a previous injury. In his career, Lenius has caught 58 catches for 659 yards and five touchdowns.

Running back Frankie Hickson is one of 12 players added to the team’s practice roster.

Dhel Duncan-Busby, safety Jaxon Ford and linebacker Nick Wiebe have all been added to the six-game injured list.

This means new wide receivers KeeSean Johnson and Ajou Ajou — the Riders’ seventh round pick in the 2024 CFL Draft — have made the team’s active roster.

Saskatchewan will return to practice on Monday.
