Teen killer to spend less than four years in prison following sentencing
A teen killer, who was initially charged with first degree murder in the death of Air Ronge resident Jennifer Hendry but pleaded guilty to the lesser offence of second-degree murder in November 2023, will spend less than four years in jail.
The teen, who can’t be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was sentenced in a La Ronge courtroom on Monday to three years and nine months in custody. He had already spent 26 months in remand, of which three months were deducted from the four-year portion of the custodial sentence.
The custodial sentence is an intensive rehabilitative custodial sentence, which means that extra resources will used to assist the offender in his rehabilitation.
In addition, the teen will have to provide a DNA sample to the national database, as well as not be permitted to have any weapons or ammunition for two years after his release from custody.
