Jul 4, 2024 | 3:15 PM

The La Ronge Ice Wolves will host one of five games happening on the opening night of the 2024 -2025 SJHL regular season.

On Friday, Sept. 20 at 7:30 p.m. the Melfort Mustangs will visit the Mel Hegland Uniplex to begin their defence of the Canterra Seeds Cup and SJHL title.

Other opening night contests include:

  • Weyburn Red Wings @ Yorkton Terriers – 7:00 p.m.
  • Kindersley Klippers @ Battlefords North Stars – 7:30 p.m.
  • Nipawin Hawks @ Flin Flon Bombers – 7:30 p.m.
  • Melville Millionaires @ Estevan Bruins – 7:00 p.m.

The day after the season opener, on Sept. 21, the Ice Wolves will travel to Nipawin to face the Hawks. This year’s schedule will feature 56 regular season games, and two in-season showcases with the MJHL.

The Ice Wolves are within the division sponsored by Sherwood, which includes Flin Flon, Melfort, and Nipawin. The Nutrien division consists of Humboldt, Kindersley, Battlefords and Notre Dame, and the Viterra division includes Estevan, Weyburn, Melville and Yorkton. A press release detailing the upcoming season schedule said teams will face each in-division rival eight times, and each out-of-division club four times each.

SJHL Commissioner Kyle McIntyre said, “It is an exciting time for the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League. Last season we had incredible parody and competitive balance, exciting playoffs and one of the most memorable league championships in recent memory. We can’t wait for the puck to drop on our upcoming season.”
