La Ronge Elk’s Fair about showcasing tri-community

Organizers are busy getting ready for the 2024 Elk’s Fair.

The Elk’s Fair will be held in La Ronge between July 19 and 21. There will be 18 rides from Canucks Amusements, as well as numerous food and merchandise booths, games of chance and more.

Kevin Roberts with the Jonas Roberts Memorial Community Centre is organizing the inaugural Terry ‘Babz’ Isbister Memorial Slo-Pitch Tournament, while Jude Ratt is organizing the annual talent show. The slo-pitch tournament will have a guaranteed $10,000 cash payout and the talent show will have $2,250 in prizes.

“It’s our major fundraiser of the year and we put a lot of money back in the community,” said Elks member Curtis Skalicky.

“It’s about showcasing our community. We want many local people to showcase their wares and their foods and make this more of a community environment, and for everyone to come out and have a good time and celebrate the fact we are living in a great community.”

The Elks are expecting 3,000 to 5,000 people to attend the fair each day. The event also serves as a fundraiser for the La Ronge Ice Wolves hockey club which operates the beer gardens, as well as the La Ronge Seniors Club which is hosting bingo.

Skalicky mentioned much of the money raised at the fair will benefit the new long-term care centre, which is expected to be completed by the end of 2026.

The Elk’s Fair is a major event and draws in people from surrounding communities such as Grandmother’s Bay, Hall Lake, Stanley Mission and Sucker River.
