Children and teens in the tri-communities have a variety of options when it comes to summer programming.

The Village of Air Ronge is offering summer programs for those between the ages of five and 14 every weekday at the Elks Hall. Mornings from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. are for those five to eight and include games, snacks and activities focused on science, music, water, world, building, nature, a carnival, as well as Disney characters and themes.

In the afternoons for the nine to 14 age group, youth will have the chance to develop new interests and try new hobbies. Activities will be focused on cooking, painting, nature walks, baking, crafts, games, gardening are more.

La Ronge’s Alex Robertson Public Library is hosting its annual TD Summer Reading Club every Monday for those between Grades 1 to 6. That programming is separated with Grades 1 to 3 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and Grades 4 to 6 from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Attendees will be able to participate in programming about space, coding bots, creating bookmarks, beading bracelets and keychains, oil pastels and button making. The summer program began July 8 and ends Aug 19.

The library is also offering the Lab Rats Science Club on Tuesdays, as well as Land Stories: Kids Art Adventure on Tuesday and Wednesdays. The TD Summer Reading Club is drop-in friendly, while registration has closed for the remaining two programs.

La Ronge’s Churchill Community High School is also offering activities through its Mental Health Capacity Building group. Programming began July 2 and activities already held included a movie night, retro arcade games, beach volleyball, hiking and golf. Next week, they will be offering a culture camp at Wapawekka Lake, along with a camping trip to Otter Lake.

La Ronge’s Pre-Cam Community School and Air Ronge’s Gordon Denny Community School are also offering programming in both science fiction and literacy for elementary-aged children. Those programs are running weekdays in the mornings and afternoons for the month of July.

The Community Arts Mentorship Program will be hosting a Youth Music Camp between July 14 and 18 at Senator Myles Venne School from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be classes in ukelele, voice, guitar, piano and songwriting. It’s for youth in Grades 5 to 12 and it will end July 18 with a community performance and feast at 4 p.m.

In addition, Men of the North is offering its Youth Mentoring Program: Summer Yard Maintenance Challenge for those between the ages of 14 and 18. This marks the fifth year for the program and the goal for 2024 is to complete 65 yards in the La La Ronge area and Buffalo Narrows.

During the challenge, youth will learn skill development, mental health and well-being, community engagement and healthy lifestyles. Men of the North have recently completed their seventh yard.
