The Town of La Ronge awarded a total of $6,000 for two community grants at a regular council meeting held last week.

The majority of the funds awarded went to the La Ronge Ski Club, which requested $5,000. The club will use the funds to purchase 20 youth skate ski packages of equipment, relocate their storage location, and expand their services towards trail grooming throughout the season.

In addition, the club has indicated that the prioritization for funds will be to secure the youth skate ski packages.

An additional $1,022 was also approved for the Lac La Ronge Tri-Community Soccer Association, which requested financial support to supply coaches with jerseys at a cost of $222 and to repair their storage shed at a cost of $800.

Municipal community grants are for the benefit of the residents of La Ronge and eligible projects include community programs and events, charitable events, start-up funding for an organization, group, or event, and any other activity or project deemed eligible by council.

Council provides $42,000 in community grants on a yearly basis and approximately $6,000 remains in the fund for 2024.
