Sage Roberts is the newest member of the Sioux Lookout Bombers.

It was announced Tuesday that Roberts had been traded to the Bombers from the La Ronge Ice Wolves in exchange for a player development fee. The Bombers are based in Ontario and play in the Superior International Junior Hockey League.

“I loved playing for the hometown and just staying home and being with friends and family all of the time,” Roberts said.

“I just wanted to try something different. I wanted to try get more opportunity and all of that.”

Roberts is a Lac La Ronge Indian Band member who made his Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League debut in October 2022 while still on the protective list. He signed a letter of intent as a forward for the 2023-24 regular season in June 2023, and subsequently had four goals and five assists in 48 games for the Ice Wolves during his time on the team.

Roberts explained he is nervous and excited to join the Bombers, but he noted he has heard good things from fellow players who have been on the team.

“I’d just like to thank everyone who supported me playing [in La Ronge], and also going to a new team, everyone is being supportive, so that’s great,” he said.

“I’m just taking it one step at a time, but I think my main goal is to go play hockey at a school or maybe eventually play a little bit of pro.”

In a statement released by the Bombers on Wednesday, it was announced that they are delighted to have Roberts join them.

“People who follow our team closely know that we do not take bringing in a new player as lightly as other programs,” the statement read.

“We are bringing in Sage because we believe he will make an instant impact for us. He skates extremely well, has very good size and has proven he can produce offensively. After talking to him and his dad it was apparent we had to get a Bomber jersey on him. He is a young man of character who is driven to get to the next level. Fans in the Hangar will be cheering for him in no time.”
