Kikinahk delivers more than 320 Christmas hampers

La Ronge’s Kikinahk Friendship Centre has once again stepped up to provide a Christmas hamper to residents of the tri-communities.

In total, more than 320 hampers were put together at the cost of approximately $40,000. There were 283 that went out to applicants, an additional 24 went out to seniors and 20 were donated to schools as door prizes.

That’s down from 400 in 2023, but still up from 300 in 2022.

“We ran our application process for a month and we didn’t have anyone who was denied or ineligible,” said Kikinahk executive director Danielle DeBruyne.

The hamper included a ham, potatoes, carrots, oranges, apples, mixed vegetables and bread. Delivery of the hampers started Dec. 18.

“We feel it is a need for the community,” DeBryne added.

“We feel it is important that all families regardless of their circumstances have a nice Christmas meal.”

DeBryne noted she would like to thank the public for their community support in 2024. She also wanted to recognize the Churchill Chargers football team for assisting with the hamper program.

The Kikinahk Friendship Centre will close for the holidays at noon on Dec. 24 and reopen Jan. 2. Activities in the gym have already come to an end and are scheduled to resume on Jan. 6.
