House fire in Bell’s Point declared total loss

Jan 8, 2025 | 1:30 PM

A house that caught fire last week in Bell’s Point has been declared a total loss.

That’s according to La Ronge Regional Fire Department Chief Keaton Cloud , who said the blaze occurred on Jan. 3 at 7 a.m.

He noted the house was fully involved by the time the firefighters arrived on the scene, where they remained for three and a half hours.

“At this point, we can say that the fire was accidental in nature and not suspicious,” Cloud stated, adding the house was vacant at the time.

“Potential cause was portable propane heater in the house either failed or caught nearby combustible contents on fire. Several 20-pound propane tanks were located inside the home, as well as remnants of a portable propane heater in the area that showed significant fire damage.”

Wood wants to remind residents to never leave portable heating devices unattended such as portable propane heaters and candles. Heating homes with stoves is also not advisable as they are not designed for that intended use.
