Canada Post looking to solve capacity issues in Air Ronge, La Ronge

Canada Post doesn’t seem to have any plans in place to address the mail issues being experienced in the tri-communities.

For instance, the Air Ronge location in the Co-op C-Store in recent weeks has been overflowing with packages. As there is no room for packages in the office, mail has been stacked up in public areas of the store impeding access to post office boxes. That has led to concerns from customers in regards to the potential for theft.

The post office in La Ronge is also experiencing capacity issues and customers have been told to expect significant delays for parcels that are in transit between Saskatoon and La Ronge.

In an email to larongeNOW, a Canada Post spokesperson stated post offices in Air Ronge, La Ronge and Stanley Mission have all received exceptionally high volumes of parcels in the last two weeks.

“We are working diligently to ensure that customers get their parcels in a timely manner and a currently looking at ways to solve this issue,” the statement read.

“To make room at the post offices for additional volume, we encourage customers to watch for notifications from Canada Post and to pick up their items promptly. This will allow us to keep the mail moving and deliver for the community.”

Reasons for the high volume of packages could stem from delayed mail in December during the postal strike, as well as the influx of cash in the communities as a result of cows and plows payments.
