Donations Create Next Level La Ronge Nordic Ski Club

Feb 14, 2025 | 9:48 AM

The La Ronge Nordic Ski Club is a non-profit organization whose goal is to get people active in the outdoors through skiing and assist in the development of young athletes. We believe that skiing should be accessible to all, no matter one’s economic backdrop, and that skiers in the Tri-Communities should have access to first-class, safe and regularly groomed trails.

While we have put on high-quality ski programs and events for many years, there are always things we aim to improve on. We need your help in pursuing these goals and your donation would go a long way in helping us deliver the best possible experience for skiers in our community and helping youth members achieve their goals. Our club has been approved for a project with the National Sport Trust Fund, which is an organization that will receive donations on behalf of the club and distribute tax receipts for qualifying donations.

We are currently undertaking a number of large projects that your donation would go towards:

  1. New trail maintenance machine ($31,900.00) – Club volunteers dedicate roughly 500 hours each year towards maintenance of a 50km ski network. This work involves chainsawing and brushcutting in the fall, as well as packing, levelling and setting tracks in winter. While the majority of ski clubs in Canada have their own trail maintenance equipment, our club currently relies on the towing machines of volunteers, which the club is no longer finding sustainable. By purchasing the club’s own equipment – a quad with tracks and grooming capabilities – we will be able to increase the size of our trail crew by not requiring volunteers to provide their own equipment, as well as improve the overall quality of the local ski network.
  2. New 7ft wide grooming drag ($10,500.00) – To further improve the quality of our local ski network we plan to purchase a wider modern grooming drag for both classic and skate ski trails.
  3. Youth skate skis ($11,100.00) – One of our guiding principles it to make skiing as accessible as possible for youth and reducing barriers to the sport. Ski equipment is expensive and many families in Northern Saskatchewan aren’t in a financial position to buy skis. With the purchase of 20 sets of skate skis (skis, boots, bindings, poles) to lend participants, we will ensure that more kids can take part in the sport and enjoy being active in the outdoors.
  4. Seacan storage container ($8,600.00) – In order to keep equipment secure year-round, the club will be purchasing a seacan container to store equipment.
  5. If the club is successful in meeting its fundraising goals, any additional funds will be used towards maintaining and improving the local trail network.

If you are interested in contributing to these initiatives, please see the attached donor form (our project number is SK:25:001) or donate online at https://www.sasksport.ca/donate/national-sport-trust-fund/ and find “La Ronge Ski Club Youth Programming & Trails Maintenance”. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact the club and we will be happy to provide you with further information about how you can support our efforts. Our email is larongenordic@gmail.com.

We greatly appreciate your support and look forward to continuing to serve you and the local ski community.

Sincerely,

Matt Mazurik Matt Koebernick
