A man responsible for the death of his former longtime partner, has received a life sentence and won’t be eligible for parole for 12 years.

Brian McLeod was sentenced on Wednesday at Court of King’s Bench in Yorkton.

The case had initially been scheduled for trial, however on Monday, McLeod entered guilty pleas to second degree murder and two counts of aggravated assault.

The case dates back to Christmas Eve 2022, when the man from Lloydminster murdered 51-year-old Sharon Littlewolfe.

McLeod was also charged with attempted murder and aggravated assault for an alleged attack on Littlewolfe’s adult daughter who faked her own death in order to survive and the daughter’s infant son who was four months old, was also injured.

The attack happened at a duplex in Margo, a tiny community of 90 people located southeast of Wynyard and two hours from Melfort.

Littlewolfe had just purchased the duplex several weeks before her death and her daughter and grandson moved into the second half.

At the time of the offence, McLeod was 56 years old and had been under a court-issued order to stay away from her.
