Prince Albert, Saskatoon make Top 10 list for ‘Most potty-mouthed Canadian cities’

Mar 31, 2025 | 3:35 PM

Almost three in five Canadians, or about 58 per cent, admit to relying on swear words frequently when chatting with friends, but that number appears to run just a little higher in Saskatchewan.

A new study analyzed comments and posts from subreddits (from the social media platform Reddit) across Canadian cities and provinces to reveal where residents are the most colourful with their language. Turns out Saskatoon residents are the most-foul mouthed across Canada, scoring 8.04/10 for rudeness, while Prince Albertans swore their way into a fifth place rudeness score, tied with Truro, Nova Scotia at 6.94/10.

“Saskatoonians are not afraid to let loose with around 7.44 per cent of comments packed with profanity, averaging 2.25 cuss words per post,” the report read. “Meanwhile, Prince Albert residents are quick to add a curse or two into the conversation, averaging around 1.9 cuss words per post.”

Edmonton, Red Deer and Toronto round out the other top five in the list.

The study isn’t overly scientific and is being published by paNOW mostly for entertainment purposes. It was offered by an online casino gaming site Casino Days. Their team curated profanity lexicons to come up with the data from the subreddits in each province.

As for Canada’s favourite swear word? You guessed it. The ‘F’ word is the most popular followed by the ‘ing’ variation of it.

The word ‘stupid’ ranked third in favourites used, although some don’t consider ‘stupid’ a swear word at all.

We’ll let you debate that amongst yourselves.

Just be nice about it…because sticks and stones may break bones, but real scientists have documented the neurological scars that verbal abuse can leave on the brain.

Yep, sh*t just got real.
