Sage Roberts is on his way back to Northern Saskatchewan after a successful season with the Sioux Lookout Bombers in the Superior International Junior Hockey League (SIJHL).

The Lac La Ronge Indian Band member ended the regular season with 14 goals and 16 assists for 30 points in 34 games. The season ended on Tuesday for the Bombers in a dramatic Game 7 overtime against the Red Lake Miners, which ended in a 4-3 decision for Red Lake.

During the playoffs, Roberts secured six goals and two assists in five games. He missed the first two games of the series after coming back to La Ronge to attend a funeral.

“I’m pretty happy with how I finished off with the team. I felt like I got a lot of opportunities. I felt like I was bearing down on my chances, too, so it really helped out and I had confidence with Sioux Lookout,” Roberts remarked.

“It was a nerve-wracking Game 7 OT final, but it didn’t go our way, but at the same time, it’s still pretty good to get that spot.”

Roberts joined the team in November 2024 after being traded from the La Ronge Ice Wolves. He said it was an uneasy feeling moving to Ontario at first because he didn’t know anyone, but he became comfortable with his new surroundings rather quickly.

Roberts noted he enjoyed playing under Head Coach Carson Johnstone, adding he was a nice guy and he trusted Roberts on the ice.

For the summer months, Roberts is looking forward to playing baseball, golf, working and going fishing. He plans to return to Sioux Lookout in August for his final year in Junior A.
