There were several students from the Lac La Ronge Indian Band’s Senator Myles Venne School (SMVS) who came back as winners after attending the Prince Albert Grand Council Fine Arts Festival.

“We had about six students all together go down from our school, but we had lot of entries in literature, arts and crafts as well,” said teacher and SMVS committee representative Kara Ross.

“It’s a great opportunity for our students to showcase their artwork because not all students are good at sports or things like that, so we need to showcase the ones who are good at other things. It’s very important.”

The fine arts festival is an annual event usually held in April in Prince Albert. In 2025, it involved more than 25 schools from throughout the Prince Albert Grand Council, as well as approximately 1,300 students and chaperones.

It took place throughout the week with Kindergarten to Grade 6 students on Monday and Tuesday, and then Grade 7-12 students on Wednesday and Thursday. Ross noted a couple highlights included a performance from Rebecca Strong, along with the instrumentals being added to the festival for the first time.

“It was a really positive experience. Lots of students had fun and I can’t wait for next year,” Ross noted.
