ISC contributes $292,000 to new long-term care facility

Fundraising for the new long-term care facility in La Ronge has received a boost from Indigenous Services Canada (ISC).

The federal government is providing $292,000 over two years to cover all fundraising administrative costs, as well as assist with a marketing budget. Fundraiser co-ordinator Jacob Page explained the support also helps cover two of the commercial ice makers within the facility.

“We’re incredibly grateful for ISC’s support and proud to continue working alongside [the] Lac La Ronge Indian Band and all of our partners to move this project forward,” he said.

“Individuals, families, organizations and businesses can make informed decisions when donating to the La Ronge and Area Long Term Care Fundraising Committee knowing that 100 per cent of every dollar donated from here on out goes directly to our campaign. It is pretty incredible to know that all other associated costs are now covered with the fantastic support from ISC.”

As of Aug. 8, $1.4 million has been raised out of a $5 million goal. The funds will go towards purchasing furniture, fixtures and equipment for the 80-bed facility.

The provincial government is investing $100 million into the project, which should be substantially completed by the end of 2026. Construction reached the halfway mark in February.

The three-storey building will also include shared living areas, family rooms, a commercial kitchen and cafeteria, a serenity room and traditional healing space.

Once residents can be moved into the new home, the current long-term care space in the health centre will be renovated to improve program areas including therapies, an adult day program and new hemodialysis unit.
