Man charged with murder in Grandmother’s Bay

A 26-year-old man has been charged with second-degree murder in Grandmother’s Bay.

An RCMP media release states on Nov. 2 officers received reports of a serious assault that occurred in front of a residence on Charles Street. Police responded and located 18-year-old Melissa Charles, who was declared deceased on the scene by EMS.

In addition, a man was also transported to hospital with what RCMP describe as non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigators determined an altercation occurred between the suspect, Keyland McLeod from Grandmother’s Bay, and the victims which resulted in their injuries. Officers arrested McLeod in the community shortly after the incident.

McLeod has been charged with second-degree murder, assault with a weapon and uttering threats. He appeared in La Ronge Provincial Court on Nov. 3.
