Operations temporarily cease at Men of the North

Men of the North is currently experiencing an operational pause.

That’s according to board chair Dr. Sean Groves, who explained the non-profit has been temporarily closed since around the end of September.

“We’re just on a pause to reassess where we’re at with the organization,” he said.

“We have plans to resume operations as soon as we can. We’re planning our annual general meeting for Jan. 3, 2026, at the Men of the North office and we’re hoping to kind of a have plan at that time moving forward with how programming is going to look and making it a viable organization into the future.”

Men of the North was founded in January 2020 by Christopher Merasty, who is currently on a paid leave of absence. The organization really took off in 2023 after securing a $820,000 three-year grant from the Northpine Foundation.

Groves noted Men of the North remains on a strong financial footing.

“We’re working through some financial stuff. We’re working to get some of our financial reporting from last year sorted out because [there’s] been a bit of a delay on that,” he remarked.

“It’s not an issue of not having any money, it’s an issue of wanting to make sure we’ve got a long-term plan that ensures Men of the North is still around in five, 10, 15 years. We have enough to manage our operating expenses for at least the next couple of years.”

Groves added after the wildfire season this summer, there was a disruption in programming and a struggle maintaining staffing levels.
