Lac La Ronge Indian Band member Jennifer Roberts-Cook is the recipient of a $5,000 microgrant from the Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies.

Roberts-Cook participated in the Business Start-Up Bootcamp, which is designed to support Indigenous entrepreneurs in navigating the processes and legal requirements of launching a business. Each bootcamp concludes with a pitch competition, where the winning participant is awarded a $5,000 microgrant to help advance their entrepreneurial ambition.

“I named my practice Full Circle Counselling and Consulting to honour a journey that has brought me back to my purpose,” she wrote in a statement to larongeNOW.

“In many Indigenous worldviews, the circle represents continuity, balance, and the understanding that our experiences, relationships, and responsibilities are all connected.”

Roberts-Cook is a mental health counsellor and her practice is dedicated to delivering culturally grounded, trauma-informed, and strengths-based supports to individuals, families, and communities. She has nearly three decades of diverse front-line experience in the human services sector, including policing, justice, mental health, addictions, victim services, child welfare, advocacy, and mentorship.

Roberts-Cook is a registered social worker and she holds a Masters of Indigenous Social Work degree. She also has a deep understanding of the structural, historical, and interpersonal factors that influence the well-being of Indigenous peoples and northern communities.

“My path began in policing, where I witnessed people and communities at vulnerable moments,” Roberts-Cook noted.

“Those experiences guided me toward social work, where I continued my education and deepened my understanding of healing, wellness, and relational accountability. Today, as a therapist, I bring those teachings forward [by] working in a way that recognizes the whole person, the importance of connection, and the strength that comes from returning to our values.”
