Upgrades coming to Stanley Mission access highway

Dec 19, 2025 | 5:01 PM

Upgrades to Highway 915, the only access road to Stanley Mission, are expected to begin in 2026.

“Planned on-site right-of-way work may begin in February or March, pending obtaining final permits,” an email to larongeNOW from the Ministry of Highways states.

“Construction is tentatively planned to start during the 2026 construction season, pending approvals. It is anticipated that construction will take at least two years.”

According to information from the Lac La Ronge Indian Band, the 35-kilometre stretch of road deteriorated over time and has several safety concerns related to poor alignment, vegetation encroachment, drainage issues and rock outcrops.

The work to be undertaken by the Ministry of Highways is expected to include tree clearing, road widening and gravel surface rehabilitation, realignment of curves to improve sightlines, utility relocations with SaskPower and SaskTel to accommodate road improvements, culvert replacements and drainage upgrades, as well as rock excavation, ditch shaping and signage improvements.

A meeting in Stanley Mission is scheduled for Jan. 5, 2026, at 5:30 p.m. at the band hall.

“The Ministry thanks the Lac La Ronge Indian Band and the Stanley Mission community for the opportunity to meet in 2026 and discuss improving this highway,” the email noted.
