Stanley Mission RCMP have charged a 25-year-old man with assault on a police officer and several firearms-related offences.

On Jan. 8 around 2:45 p.m., police received a report of an intoxicated male acting aggressively at a local residence in Stanley Mission. They responded and located the suspect in a corner of a room with a firearm.

The firearm, which was determined to be a pellet gun, was pointed at an officer, but was dropped when given verbal command to do so. Another pellet rifle, an assault-style BB gun, an axe, a large knife and two swords were also located and seized.

A conducted energy weapon was used after the man resisted arrest and tried to escape police custody. He was assessed by medical personnel as a precaution and released back into police custody.
