New bridge approved north of La Loche

The provincial government plans to invest an estimated $7.3 million toward replacing the Highway 955 bridge over Clearwater River about 60 kilometers north of La Loche.

An email to larongeNOW from the Ministry of Highways states the bridge, originally built in 1973, needs to be replaced because it’s nearing the end of its service life.

Construction work is expected to begin mid-March and is expected to be completed this fall if weather conditions are favourable.

After the work begins, traffic on the bridge will be limited to one direction at a time using temporary traffic lights, while width will be restricted to 5.4 meters. At times, the bridge may be closed for about an hour during the day to accommodate the work.
