Lac La Ronge Winter Festival starts Friday

It’s only a matter of days before the start of the 2026 Lac La Ronge Winter Festival. 

Events begin Friday with a Texas Hold’em tournament, followed by a breakfast fundraiser, minor hockey tournament, talent showcase, fish derby, and the Tracker Tom Charles Memorial Junior Trapper Competition on Saturday. The trapper competition, which will be held at the urban reserve at noon, will include top prizes of $350 for the top male and female contestants, as well as individual event payouts.

Also on Saturday, there will be the crowning of the Winter Festival Queen, along with the announcement of the Mr. And Mrs. Winter Festival at the Jonas Roberts Memorial Community Centre (JRMCC) at 3 p.m.

Throughout the week, there will be an assortment of activities for all ages including an Elder’s lunch and bingo, a family dance, family skating and movie nights, a youth talent show, a cribbage tournament and more.  

A couple of the highlights are the Battle of the Bellies Hockey Game on Tuesday, a jigging and square dancing competition on Wednesday, and the start of the 13th annual Jimmy Roberts Memorial Hockey Tournament on Friday which lasts until Sunday. The hockey tournament includes $20,000 in cash prizes with a grand prize of $5,000 in the open recreation division. 

The Tracker Tom Charles Memorial King and Queen Trapper Competition will be held March 7 (urban reserve) and March 8 (JRMCC). That will include more than $6,000 in prizes with $1,500 for the top male and female contestants.  

The 13th annual Winter Festival Volleyball Tournament will also be held March 7 at the JRMCC. That will include $5,000 in prize money with $2,500 for the top team.  

Attendance at some events require a $5 festival button or an admissions fee.
