Sucker River death deemed a homicide, police ask public for information

Saskatchewan RCMP’s Homicide Investigation Unit (HIU) is asking for the public’s assistance following a homicide in Sucker River.

On March 4 at approximately 12:20 a.m., police received a report of an injured man at a residence in the community. He was transported to hospital by EMS, where he was later declared deceased.

The victim has been identified as 39-year-old Stephen McKenzie of the Lac La Ronge Indian Band. His family has been notified and victim services made available to them.

An investigation has determined McKenzie’s death is a homicide. RCMP continues to investigate and are actively working to identify and locate the suspect(s) involved.

Investigators are releasing McKenzie’s name as they are asking anyone with information about his death to report it to La Ronge RCMP by calling 310-RCMP. Information can also be submitted anonymously by contacting Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or www.saskcrimestoppers.com.
