New councillor for Ile-a-la Crosse

Mar 12, 2026 | 4:36 PM

Residents of Ile-a-la Crosse have a new village councillor.

A by-election was held on Wednesday, which saw Carmen Corrigal elected with 65 votes. She ran against Rodney Belanger, who came in second with 54 votes, and Anthony Hodgson who was third with 44 votes.

The by-election was necessary after long-time councillor Vince Ahenakew decided to resign earlier this year. This marks the second by-election in the northern village this term after Myra Malboeuf was voted in as mayor following the departure of Buckley Belanger, who is now the MP for Desnethé -Missinippi-Churchill River.

larongeNOW reached out to Corrigal for an interview, but she couldn’t be reached by the time of publication.
