Grey Cup lures fans during La Ronge visit

The Grey Cup made an appearance in La Ronge on Saturday as part of the Saskatchewan Roughriders’ Community Tour.  

It was brought to La Ronge by Saskatchewan Roughriders Manager of Content and Creative Blake Tiedeman, and it was showcased for two hours during the Crushers Annual Andy Clark Memorial Hockey Tournament at the Mel Hegland Uniplex.  

The Grey Cup has already toured dozens of communities throughout the province and La Ronge is one of the final stops.  

“We’re about to hand the cup back to the CFL and we’re going to focus on trying to win it again,” Tiedeman said.  

“There’s lots of excitement, the kids love it, and what we found too is there’s been a lot of people trying to find the plague where it says 2025 Saskatchewan Roughriders on it. Every year the winner gets their name on the plague with the year, so there has been a lot of people trying to find that on there, which has been really cool.”

Tiedeman explained it is important for the team to have the cup tour the province because the Saskatchewan Roughriders is a provincial team.  

“We play out of Regina, but it’s just not Regina,” he noted. 

“There’s so many other communities and I think what we see with the Riders is there’s fans all over the place. Everyone bleeds green in this province.” 

Tiedeman mentioned bring the Grey Cup to La Ronge is particularly important to him because he was born and raised in the community. He’s a Churchill Community High School graduate and began working for the Saskatchewan Roughriders in 2019. 

“It’s awesome to bring it back home to La Ronge. This is such a special place to me and my family,” Tiedeman added.  

“We’d love to come back more often, but being able to bring the cup home to La Ronge for me is super special.”
