Co-op donates $30K to long-term care, fundraising campaign over $3 million mark

Lake Country Co-op has pledged $30,000 towards equipment and furnishings for the new long-term care centre in La Ronge.

“Access to quality care close to home is something everyone deserves. This contribution helps ensure that seniors can stay in the North, surrounded by their loved ones, culture, and community – without the stress of traveling far for the care they need,” a statement issued by the cooperative states.

“We believe in building stronger, healthier communities – and this is one step toward a future where care is closer, compassion is stronger, and no one is left behind.”

As of Dec. 31, more than $2.4 million has been raised out of a $5 million goal. It’s important to note that total doesn’t include the $413,000 raised by the recent Chase the Ace fundraiser, as well as a $292,000 commitment from Indigenous Services Canada in partnership with Lac La Ronge Indian Band Health Services.

Fundraiser coordinator Jacob Page noted the latest total raised will be announced April 8 at the next annual general meeting.

Lake Country Co-op has a large impact in the tri-communities, operating two gas stations, a full-service grocery store, as well as a propane facility.

“Our team worked closely with Lake Country leadership, sharing stories, project insights, and overall impact on the new La Ronge and area long term care home, dialysis unit and expanded therapies area will have on our region,” a statement from Page reads.

“Thank you to Lake Country Co-op leadership, board of directors and team members for making this partnership a reality.”

The new $100 million long-term care facility is expected to reach substantial completion by the end of this year.
